Murmur is built so what you say stays on your phone.
Murmur records audio with your microphone and writes it straight to a file on your iPhone. Transcription runs on-device using Apple's on-device speech recognition. AI features (clean-up, summaries, rewrite styles, and automatic title/tags) run on-device using Apple's Foundation Models, when available on your iPhone. None of this — audio, transcripts, or AI output — is sent to a server. The app has no server, and we cannot see, receive, or store your recordings or notes.
Nothing. We do not operate any servers that this app talks to, and the app contains no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, and no tracking code. We do not know who uses this app, how often, or what anyone records.
Your recordings and notes are stored locally on your iPhone (in the app's local storage) and are not synced to iCloud or any other service by this app.
The app asks for microphone access to record, and speech recognition access to transcribe. Both stay on your device. If your iPhone uses the fallback transcription path instead of the primary one, that path is explicitly configured to require on-device recognition — it will not send audio to a server; if on-device recognition isn't available on your iPhone at that moment, the app tells you transcription isn't available rather than sending your audio elsewhere.
The AI clean-up, summary and rewrite features need an iPhone with Apple Intelligence available and turned on. When available, this processing happens on-device via Apple's Foundation Models framework; we do not receive the transcript or the AI output. Without Apple Intelligence, these specific features are unavailable and the app tells you so; recording and transcription are unaffected.
Murmur Pro ($14.99/year auto-renewing subscription, or $29.99 one-time lifetime purchase) is processed by Apple through StoreKit. Apple handles your payment method, billing, and subscription management; we do not receive or store your card details, and we do not receive your name, email, or billing address from a purchase. This app is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children, because it does not collect information from anyone at all.
